Each year, we hold a Day of Drumming for prospective and returning members. This day gives our staff a chance to provide potential members with feedback on what to work on prior to the summer so they can more adequately prepare for their audition in August. While attendance of the Day of Drumming is not mandatory, it is highly recommended.
The 2016 edition of the Day of Drumming will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Check in will be in the Fletcher Music Building “new lobby” (just outside the recital hall) from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM and drumming will occur either on the ECU practice field (on College Hill Drive, across 10th Street from the Music Building) or in room B110 in Fletcher (if raining). If you arrive after 8:30 AM, please report directly to the drumming location. Lunch is not provided for the potential members. However, it is common for the potential members (new and returning) to go out to eat lunch together, so it is recommended that you bring some money for lunch.
The day will consist of explanations of the technique used by the ECU Marching Pirates Drumline, instruction on a few of the exercises used, and an explanation of the audition process and materials.
Please bring sticks, a drum pad, ear plugs, water, pencil, and a 3 ring binder consisting of the technique handbook, policy handbook, and copies of the audition materials (exercises, pregame materials, and cadences) for the instrument(s) for which you are interested in auditioning.
