Zack Grass was born in Saratoga Springs, New York and raised in Waynesboro, PA where he attended Waynesboro Area Senior High School and took lessons with Mr. Bernie Pitkin. An alumnus of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Zack graduated with his Bachelor of Fine Arts, concentrating in tuba performance, in 2014 while studying with Dr. Zachary Collins.
Zack’s performance highlights have included a substitute position with the Butler Symphony Orchestra, recording session of the music of Fisher Tull with the Keystone Wind Ensemble, a full season as a tubist in the Hershey Park Chocolate Covered Band, Combo leader of the Green Blues Jazz Combo and Philly Street Swag Jazz trio, Bass Trombonist in the Craig Fraedrich Big Band at the National Jazz Workshop, and a featured soloist during the 100th season celebration of the Hagerstown Municipal Band.
Zack was also a member of the scholarship group, “The Legacy Brass Quintet”, since its inception in 2011 to 2014 and was a recipient of the Jim Self tuba scholarship at IUP in 2013 and 2014.
Zack is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Tuba Performance with Professor Tom McCaslin.
