Bill Holmes is a teaching fellows alumnus from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) with a Bachelor of Music in Education, earned in 2004. While at UNCG, Bill performed in a variety of ensembles, including the trombone ensemble performance in the International Trombone Festival in 2001 under Dr. Randy Kohlenberg.
Bill taught nine years in the North Carolina public school system, the vast majority of that time as band director of Smithfield Middle School in his hometown of Smithfield, NC. During his tenure there, Bill greatly expanded student achievement, with his bands in constant demand by community and school leaders. His ensembles consistently received high ratings and students regularly received outstanding soloist and section recognition in various music festivals, including the Elon Jazz Festival, ECU's Billy Taylor Jazz Festival, and Musicale music festivals. For a number of years, Bill was a marching band instructor for the Smithfield-Selma Senior High School Spartan Regiment.
Bill is looking forward to his graduate studies at East Carolina University, and is excited to work with the Marching Pirates.
